National Book Lovers Day

Make your own bookmarks to celebrate National Book Lovers Day! #ctmh #closetomyheart #papercrafting #diybookmarks #homemadebookmarks #reading #diygiftideas

Today is National Book Lovers Day, and to celebrate, we’re sharing these adorable bookmarks with you!

Here’s how we made them. First, we cut identical rectangles out of Sea Glass, Pixie, and Glacier cardstock, as well as our All About the Gold Fundamentals overlays. Then we rounded the corners with our corner rounder. After stamping our sentiments onto pieces of White Daisy cardstock, we used a sewing machine to attach the sentiments to the bookmarks, which is what holds the overlays in place. To top it all off, we added some ribbon from our Uptown ribbon pack and glitter accents from our Baby Girl Complements.

Homemade bookmarks would be a great gift for your kids’ teachers as they head back to school, for your friends who love to read, or for your book club buddies. They’re also just a fun way to get you even more excited about the books you’re reading.

Here at Close To My Heart, we’re all about preserving stories, so it’s no surprise that we really love to read! We thought it would be fun to ask around the office to find out what everyone is reading lately. Jeanette is currently reading The Success Principles by Jack Canfield, following the same schedule as our Consultants and our Training department. Here’s what the rest of the Home Office is reading:

  1. I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I realized I loved the movie, but I had never read the book! It is wonderful! Now need to watch the movie again!

  2. I LOVE to read mysteries, science fiction and the occasional romance, especially if there is a mystery involved! Right now I am reading Cora’s Heart by Rachael Herron (a romance) on my Kobo, but I am also reading Krista Davis’s Domestic Diva Mysteries and Cleo Coyle’s Coffeehouse Mysteries. I am going to make a bunch of the bookmarks and give them to my bus buddies and co-workers who all read! What a great little thank you gift!

  3. I’ve been accused of having affairs with books…meaning I have several that I’m reading at the same time. My current read list is: (Fiction) “The Breath of Dawn” by Kristen Heitzmann; (Non-fiction) “A Hard Won Life: A Boy on His Own on the Montana Frontier” by H. Norman Hyatt (research for a fiction story I’m co-writing, due out 9/17, Zebra Publishing); and (Self-Improvement a.k.a how to get better as a writer) “Plot vs. Character” by Jeff Gerke.

My favorite bookmark is one someone gave me that simply says, “Quitter Strip”!

  4. I am currently trying o read Jeannette’s pick “The Principles of Sucess” but I unfortunately didn’t start when others did so I am on chapter 4. Thank you for sharing what others are reading. I have read a few of them, but I had not heard of many of them. I and a fiction girl mainly.

  5. Oh what pretty bookmarks, I just finished reading Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. It is a fantasy novel. And well as I am bout to head of for a two week vacation – the list of books is handy as I need to find something to pick up & read when I am not crafting of course 😉
