2 Fun Spins on the Classic Card

Looking for some cardmaking inspiration? We’ve got you covered! Today we’re sharing two awesome ideas to take your cards to the next level!

Up first is this card that opens in the middle, like a beautiful set of French doors 😉 . To create the base for this card, cut a piece of cardstock that is 4″ x 11″. Fold the ends in until they meet in the middle, about 2 ¾” from each end, and then add patterned paper to the inside and outside of the “flaps” for more personality.

You can also have a lot of fun with the outside of this card. We created two halves of a flower on the flaps, strung a cute sentiment on some twine like a tag, and tied it around the card so opening this card feels like opening a present!

If you’re feeling really adventurous, try making a pop-up card! There are a bunch of free tutorials on the internet. We modified this one from craftsy.com for our card.

Like our first card, we finished off the card by wrapping twine around it. This is an especially great idea for pop-up cards because it holds the card closed nicely.

  1. What fun it would be to get these cards. I am most partial to the French door card because it is so cheery.Love the color contrast from black and white on the front to color explosion inside.

  2. Both excellent ways to step up from your basic card. Looking forward to a fun creative weekend where I might even do one of these cards.

    • Hi Cathy! The measurements for the base of the “Thanks” card are listed in this blog post. As for the graduation card, you can look at the tutorial we linked for instructions on how to fold the card. 🙂

  3. Both are beautiful, but the graduation one is spectacular and I have a daughter finishes high school this year…….

  4. I love cards that have that little extra! I recently made the second card with a friend and we put confetti in it for that extra element of surprise. My favourite would be the second one but only by a whisker!

  5. I love the idea of writing a personal letter with dream, wishes, etc. for the lucky recipient in the second card!
