4 Crafts to Do Before Easter Comes Hopping

Today! It’s today! Spring has arrived in our little corner of the world, and we couldn’t be happier about it. What’s your favorite part of spring? For us, the Easter holiday is a major highlight. For so very many reasons, this holiday brings joy and giddiness to the hearts of folks big and small.

In preparation for the holiday, we’ve pulled out some of our favorite Easter stamps to create some truly egg-cellent projects.

Happy Easter Canvas Trio
This canvas trio makes a cozy Easter-season wall piece. Who can resist this gorgeous Easter lily image in combination with the letters from the Hopscotch Alphabet stamp set (E1028)? We’ve added some flora to these versatile canvases to portray the beautiful message of new life that Easter is all about. To achieve the beautiful colors on these pieces, we turned first to our ShinHan™ Touch Twin™ markers. Then we used the blending pen to pick up ink from various Exclusive Inks™ pads to apply some softer tones.

Easter Canvases

4 ½” x 4 ½” Chick Card
With a stamp this precious, we couldn’t help but create a truly adorable card. We once again used the blending pen to add color from our chosen Exclusive Inks™ pads. Don’t you love the shading spectrum you can achieve this way? This little chick has got to be the cutest one in town!

Easter Egg Drawstring Bags
My Creations™ muslin drawstring bags will delight anyone you give them to! We stamped the fancy egg image directly onto our bag using black StazOn™ ink. Once dry, we used an array of Exclusive Inks™ pads and the blending pen to “dye” our egg. We love that every stamped egg can be a unique work of art all its own! Without the headache of vinegar dyes and cartons full of hard-boiled eggs, you’ve got yourself a picturesque (and nonperishable) final product.

Easter Stamp Artwork

Before gifting your creation, place a small surprise inside and attach a simple tag. We used our Cricut® Artiste cartridge, hand-stamped an image on the tag, and once again used the blending pen to apply bold pops of color that invoke the beauties of blossoming spring.

Decorative Carrots
You’ll never guess the secret ingredients we used to make this delicious bunny bait: The Scaredy Cat and Chalk It Up paper packets! Who would’ve dreamed these papers could be used for Easter? It’s just more proof of how our B&T papers can be turned into fun 3-D home décor pieces in a hop. And why not sweeten the deal by stuffing them with jelly beans?

Easter Decorations

Easter will be here before you can say chocolate bunny, but there’s no need to scramble for last-minute ideas. Be prepared for the coming Easter holiday by ordering these Close To My Heart products today!

A Game of Hopscotch

You’re just a hop, skip, and a jump away from a playful creative awakening when you get your hands on our fun Hopscotch Background and Texture (B&T) papers. Using the Hopscotch papers is more than child’s play—it’s carefree crafting at its finest.

There are hundreds of ways to transform the hopping hexagons, sprightly sunbursts, and other popping patterns on these papers into works of art. So what’s your game plan?

One of our favorite ways to use the playful papers is with the Workshops on the Go® Hopscotch scrapbooking kit!

Workshops on the Go® Hopscotch Scrapbooking Kit

If you’ve used our Workshops on the Go® kits before then you’re already acquainted with the joy that comes from piecing together a gorgeous, complete scrapbook layout or collection of beautiful cards. These kits give you everything you need to complete some of the loveliest pieces on the block—wherever and whenever you wish. The only things we don’t pack into our kits are the three things you provide: your trusty paper trimmer, your adhesive of choice, and your creativity.

We don’t like to play favorites, but if we did, the spunky Hopscotch scrapbook kit from Seasonal Expressions 1 would definitely be one of them. You can’t help but love its energetic papers and eye-catching patterns—and the stamp set scores a lot of points for positivity and sheer cute factor!

Hopscotch Workshop Stamp Set

The best thing about these kits? They come with enough products to make not one, but TWO great layouts. All you need is our set of online instructions to create a second layout with the remaining products.

Workshops on the Go® Hopscotch Scrapbooking Kit

So who’s in? There’s only one month left to get this goodie before it’s gone forever, so get yours from your Consultant before March is over and this game of Hopscotch concludes.

Feeling Cornered by Chronology?

Do you suffer from acute chronological scrapbook syndrome? You’re not alone.

Thousands like you have been printing photos and storing them away in shoeboxes for decades, assuring themselves that one day they’ll feel more motivated to scrapbook everything in the perfect order.

Full of good intentions, but dreading the task of organizing every photo, victims of this syndrome often find their passion tainted by a nagging voice that tells them they must start at the beginning (wherever that is) or not start at all.

It’s time to silence that voice and get back to doing what we love!

It may seem revolutionary, but scrapbooks don’t have to be done in chronological order. Remember that these memories are your stories, so you get to tell them however you wish. The only way you’re doing it “wrong” is if the method you’ve chosen feels like a task rather than a delight.

Free yourself and your creativity by trying these organizational methods of scrapbooking instead:

Life Milestones
Milestones happen at every stage of life. Create an album that showcases a variety of milestones from the lives of each family member. Pick a certain milestone and focus on that, or gather a bunch onto one layout. You can include things like graduations, church ceremonies, losing teeth, getting married, the first day of a new job, or learning to walk. This is a fun way to show your family’s progress over time.

Love is You layout in album

Classic Family Memories
Have a favorite memory that everyone in the family loves to talk about? Get it on paper. When your family comes over for Sunday dinner and starts to reminisce, write down the extra details they add to your story. Better yet, ask them to write their own version of the family memory. Include everyone’s version of the story as journaling on your layout. Even if you have no idea where the photos of that specific memory are, just start taking the first steps. You’ll find the photos in that notorious shoebox soon enough.

Someone You Love
Pick a person who’s important to you and create an album that’s all about them. The photos can come from any time or event. The important part is simply that they get remembered. This album will become something they will cherish for always.

Color Schemes
This artsy method is more wild and crazy, but definitely a lot of fun—and excellent for a creative boost! Choose photos and papers based on the similarity of their color schemes and then put them all on one page. Find out how fun it can be to see a collection of unrelated memories on one layout!

Random Reminiscing
Reach into that pile of photos and pull out a few. Scrapbook them any way you wish, whether that’s together on one page or each on their own layout. As you finish each layout, simply place them in your album in any order at all. This method is a lot of fun to look through afterward because you’ll always be surprised by which memory pops up next.

Purposeful Prompts
Type a list of prompts (e.g. your favorite words, themes, questions you think your posterity will ask about you), trim them into strips, and place them in a jar. Draw a new one every time you sit down to scrapbook. Whatever kind of information that prompt inspires you to document, do it!

It’s the Little Things
In addition to the big events of life, be sure to also emphasize the daily things that make you and your family who you are. Stepping outside of big events will paint a more realistic picture of your life as well as add some variety to your albums.

Likes and Dislikes
Focus on a person’s likes or dislikes, not worrying about their age or location at the time you took the photos. An overarching theme like this really helps to reveal who a person is in just a layout or two.

Favorite Activities
What activity does your family love to do? Find pictures of yourselves doing that activity across any number of years and group them together. Say you like to vacation together; make a layout just for vacations. They don’t even have to be from the same trip—just get the theme put into one place.

Travel layout in album

How do you feel now? Empowered? Liberated? Excited? The only thing to make this moment sweeter would be for us to remind you that the albums you’ll need to keep your long-awaited layouts safe in are available at a great deal this month. Take advantage of the February deal on albums to get your gorgeous, non-chronological layouts archived and on display. You only have a few days left to take advantage of this promotion. Your memories have waited a long time for this; now let them shine!

Safe in the Arms of an Album

Last month, Monica came into my office with her arms full of two Ruby Floral albums filled with Memory Protectors™. Not knowing what those beautiful covers held within, I was intrigued as she set them in front of me. I opened them up and, to my surprise, found pages upon pages of well wishes from and photos of some of my dearest friends. Without me knowing about it, my executive team had started collecting these handwritten notes from Consultants starting back at Convention 2014, then added notes from Close To My Heart employees as well. With the final product ready at last, they presented to me one of the most wonderful gifts I have ever received!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As I first flipped through the pages, I was speechless. I read every message, memory, and expression of love for hours on end. I adored the many pictures from Convention, complete with so many of your smiling faces! I was overwhelmed as I read the heartfelt messages that so many of you wrote to me, each one beautifully showcased on a Picture My Life™ card and slipped into a pocket Memory Protector™.

I promptly made a place for my new albums on a shelf in my office where I can access them easily throughout the day—and trust me, I’ve opened them almost every day since then! Thank you, my dear friends, for your love. Your words have really touched my heart.

I love my new albums for reasons deeper than just having pretty packages of sweet notes. Because a real friendship lives behind each card, these albums have become the protectors of dear relationships. Your handwritten words are symbols of the great influence you have had in my life, and I’d do anything to preserve them. While I hope that I will never forget them, willpower isn’t enough; I know I’ll eventually need a refresher. We all do! Albums are the guardians I trust to preserve my real, living, breathing relationships.

Once you’ve put your memories to paper, you can feel good about a job well started—but not quite done. Until your pages have a place to call home—a sturdy, attractive, well-balanced album—you haven’t finished the job. Would you ever plan, prepare, and serve an important meal and then leave it out to spoil? Definitely not! You’d immediately make sure it had a home in some hungry tummies, then promptly seal up whatever is left and refrigerate it to enjoy again later. Your memories need the same kind of tender, loving care.

Putting your moments that matter most into one of the new Close To My Heart albums will give you the satisfaction of a job well finished. You can be sure that your memories are safely at home within their sturdy (and incredibly cute) covers. Then all you have left to do is enjoy them for the many years to come!

I know I’ll be enjoying my new albums in exactly this way, and I know you’ll experience the same kind of joy with yours.

All my love,

Jeanette

Making Impressions: Upgrade Your Albums with Title Pages

The only thing more alluring than a new Close To My Heart canvas-coated album is a BOGO deal. Put them together, and what do you have? A recipe for amazing that just so happens to be available to you during the month of February!

To help you fill up these gorgeous albums, we’ll be sharing ideas throughout the month for the kinds of album-worthy artwork we swoon over.

Today we’ve got an idea to take your albums up a notch: album title pages! It’s a great way to turn what would otherwise be a scattered compilation of layouts into a finished and cohesive album.

Title page in album

What can a title page do for you? Your album’s title page is like the opening scene for the slideshow of your life, so you want to make sure it sends the right message.

Keep the following three things in mind and you’ll be able to create a title page that’s sure to leave an impression:

1) A clear focal point. One good photo surrounded by plenty of negative space will do the trick.

2) A defined title. Your title is a succinct description at the beginning of your album to make it easy for your audience to recognize what the album is about.

3) Connection. A title page can jive with the layouts of an album while still making a statement of its own. Aim for coordination, not a perfect match. You might choose to make your title page first and then borrow a few elements to develop other layouts in the album. Or, you might do the opposite and make your title page last, pulling elements from some of your layouts. Regardless of the method you choose, be sure to make it your own!

On this, our first two-page spread of the album, you see border stitching that is a variant of the hand-drawn stitching on our title page. What a great way to pull the two pieces together.

We love title pages! What creative techniques have you used to create yours?

Crafting with Kids: Valentine Boxes

Help the kids get ready for the downpour of warm fuzzies from their friends this Valentine’s Day with a trendy valentine box! Every piece of this adorable box is simple enough for a child to recreate it. Of course, with the creativity of the kids on board, the two of you will probably be able to come up with something uniquely your own. Put your heads together to build your note catcher.

Valentine Box and cards

First, pull out a Designer Creations cupcake box. It’s made of designed kraft paper and has a clear plastic window for quick and easy monitoring of the love note stash. Make your box even more irresistible by trying a few of these artistic techniques:

• Cut a 3″ long slot in the top panel of the box, making it just the right size for receiving notes from other kids.
• Use your Cricut® machine to cut out hearts to stamp on. Many of your heart stamps will coordinate with shapes on your Close To My Heart Cricut® cartridges. See the stamp carrier sheet to find info on which cartridge to use and at what size to cut out your heart in order to match your stamp.
• Get creative when decorating your hearts. Check out the look we achieved using the Brushstrokes stamp set for a background and the XOXO stamp set for a sentiment on one of our large hearts! Those small hearts you see were stamped on scrap cardstock and trimmed out.
• Draw fun borders on your hearts with a journaling pen.
• Use Shimmer Trim to create glimmering bows to top off your project.

These 3″ x 3″ cards are also a lot of fun to make with the kids—and so very simple. The little ones will love to help with the stamping, and they’ll end up with cute valentines to share with their friends. It’s also a great way to use up your extra supplies!

Once you’re feelin’ the love, it’s time to turn your thoughts to teacher. This same cupcake box is also ideal for tucking away treats, so you could place a mouthwatering cupcake in the round base insert and let your child deliver the sweet!

Valentine Teacher Box

Deck out your box to match the sugary delight inside by using some of these ideas:

• Trim cardstock pieces on which to stamp sentiments. You could use your Cricut® machine for this step, but it also provides a great opportunity for your young helpers who are good with scissors!
• Make the trimming even easier by finding a printed heart shape you can trim out and stamp on. This one came from a Picture My Life™ Heartstrings scrapbooking program card.
• Stamp sentiments on your cardstock shapes. Here we’ve used the alphabet stamp set from the Cricut® Artfully Sent collection to spell the word “Teacher.”
• Add a few embellishments of your choice. We love the look of the Heartstrings Complements combined with the pink glitter gems!
• Once again, use your journaling pen to create unique borders on your heart.
• Use Shimmer Trim to complete your look

You’re sure to melt a few hearts this Valentine’s Day with these lovely creations. We hope you have a heartwarming time making papercrafts and memories together!

Brilliant Birthdays: Put Some Flavor in Your Favors

We’re back with the final installment of the birthday series, and we’ve saved one of the most exciting parts for last—party favors!

Your favors are the finale for your party, the little piece that walks away with every guest. You want them to make a statement, but mostly you want them to be quick and easy!

Here we have a handful of ideas for favors that you can make quickly, but beautifully, with your Close To My Heart products. Have a blast experimenting with what favor is right for your party and then pick one to make!

Party Favor from a Designer Creations Paper Bag

Tuck your treat into a Designer Creations paper bag. Simply fold over the top and secure it with a mini staple, a mini clothespin, or a touch of adhesive, and you’ll have a secure package. Add a decorative touch with a Cricut® cut and a few of your favorite embellishments.

Party Favor from a Cut Above™ Birthday Treat Bag Kit

Enjoy the simplicity of a Cut Above™ treat bag kit. The kit comes with 10 different bags and all the necessary trimmings, so most of the work is already done for you; all you need to do is assemble it! You can personalize the bag with a few additional embellishments. Here we’ve switched things up by using the color-coordinated sticker from the kit as an accessory for the tag instead of its intended use as a candy topper.

Party Favor from a Cricut® Artiste Box

Small or large, a Cricut® Artiste box is always a hit with friends and family! Wrap up a small treat in good style with a pillow box like this, or any of the other great boxes available on the cartridge. Decorate your little package to your liking until you’re sure you’ll delight your recipients. When cut from the Confetti Wishes papers, the boxes are already so cute you hardly need to add anything more!

We hope you enjoy planning every last detail of your birthday parties this coming year. If you have more ideas you wish to share with the rest of us, be sure to leave a comment below. Happy birthday-izing!
