Mini Summertime Adventure Album

Mini summertime adventure album #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #cricutartbooking #cricutyouarehere #ctmhjack #camping #cabin #vacationCan you believe summer is already coming to a close? Oh how time flies when you’re having fun! Though it may be hard to wave farewell to days lounging by the pool, visiting family, and traveling to beautiful destinations, you can keep those summertime memories alive and well by creating a mini album. Summertime doesn’t have to end!

We created this camping-themed album with two of our exclusive Cricut® collections: Artbooking and You Are Here.

The Artbooking collection includes a variety of tabbed, hole-punched pages designed especially for creating mini albums like this one! To decorate those pages, we turned to the You Are Here collection, which is our newest Cricut® collection. This collection includes designs to help you document your adventures both near and far away from home. Combine these two collections together, and you’ve got everything you need to create any number of mini summertime adventure albums!

You’ll see lots of the Jack paper packet in our mini album. With its tree, woodgrain, and flannel-inspired plaid patterns, these papers are perfect for documenting your outdoor adventures. Just remember, it’s only available until the end of the month while supplies last, so grab yours while you can!

If these pages inspire you to make an album of your own, feel free to refer to the recipe at the bottom of this post to see which products we used, as well as more details about the Cricut® cuts.

How to Organize Years of Photos Without Getting Overwhelmed

How to organize years of photos without getting overwhelmed #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbooking #photos #organize #digital #persnicketyprints #organization

When it comes to scrapbooking, one of the biggest hold-ups for people is feeling overwhelmed with organizing their photos. If you have years of photos piled up on your computer or photos spread between multiple devices, it can be easy to put off preserving your memories. The longer you wait to organize your photos, the more overwhelming it will become—so now is the time to start!

Because we believe in the importance of memory keeping, we want to help make the task easier, so today we’re going to walk you step-by-step through how to efficiently organize your digital photos for scrapbooking. It’s a process that may take some time, but which will be well worth it when your memories are all in order!

To give you an added incentive for getting started, we’ve teamed up with Persnickety Prints to get you a discount code for printing your photos so you can catch up AND save money! Continue reading for more details. 🙂

Step One: Consolidate Your Digital Photos

Upload all of your digital photos to one location on your computer. We recommend using a photo managing system, like Google Photos or iPhotos, to easily transfer photos from your phone onto your computer. If you haven’t transferred them already, go through the photos on your phone, your camera, and upload them all to this one location.

Step Two: Eliminate Unwanted Photos

Once you have all of your photos in one place, go through and eliminate any that aren’t worth keeping: repeats, photos with a blurry finger covering half the lens, photos of your to-do lists, etc.

Tip: Moving forward, make it a habit to do a Daily Delete—every day, go through the photos on your phone (or camera if you took pictures on it that day) and delete any of these types of photos. It will take you two seconds and save you tons of time down the road. You’ll be able to skip step two entirely in the future!

Another tip: Use the time traveling home from a vacation to do your deleting. That way when you get home, you’ll have already eliminated all the photos from your trip you don’t want to keep. Plus, it’s a fun way to relive those memories again while you’re heading home.

Step Three: Organize Your Digital Photos

In your photo managing system, create folders for each month and year. Then place the corresponding photos in these folders.

Step Four: Back Up Your Digital Photos

Back up all the photos in your photo managing system onto a CD or external hard drive. You can also look into online options, such as iCloud, Dropbox, or Google Drive.

Step Five: Create To-Print Folders

Once you have organized your photos in your photo managing system, you’re ready to start thinking about scrapbooking them—woohoo! Even though all the photos you have left are photos you have deemed worth keeping, you may not want to scrapbook all of them. A great way to figure out which photos you want to scrapbook is to copy and paste a given folder onto your desktop. Then go through and delete any photos you don’t want to print. You can also edit any of the photos you’re going to print if you want to take that extra step.

Step Six: Upload & Print Photos

Once you’ve gone through all the photos on your desktop folder, you’re ready to print! We recommend creating a table, like the one below, to track each folder’s progress. When you have printed your photos, you can delete the desktop folder you created (remember, you’ve already saved these photos elsewhere!).How to organize years of photos without getting overwhelmed #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbooking #photos #organize #digital #persnicketyprints #organization

Tip: Choose one day every month to do a print run. Some months you may be able to afford printing more photos than other months, but get in the habit of printing your photos on the same day each month.

PHOTO DISCOUNT: Now is a great time to catch up on printing your photos because Persnickety Prints has been kind enough to create a discount code for our readers! Use this discount code to save 20% on your entire order: CTMH20

This code expires August 30, cannot be combined with other discount codes, and is limited to one use per customer.

Step Seven: Organize Printed Photos

How to organize years of photos without getting overwhelmed #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbooking #photos #organize #digital #persnicketyprints #organization

Option 1: Use our large organizers and tabbed dividers to organize your printed photos.

How to organize years of photos without getting overwhelmed #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbooking #photos #organize #digital #persnicketyprints #organization

You can organize your photos by date, person, event…whatever you want! Think about the album you want to create with the photos, and organize them that way.

How to organize years of photos without getting overwhelmed #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbooking #photos #organize #digital #persnicketyprints #organization

Option 2: Create a work-in-progress album. Use one of our D-ring albums and divided Memory Protectors™ to separate out all the photos you’ll want for an album. You can group like photos together so you know how to plan your layouts.

And that’s it! The next step is to start scrapbooking away! If the idea of scrapbooking itself overwhelms you, a great place to start is with our Workshops Your Way® scrapbooking kits. You can also talk to your Independent Consultant (or find one online!) to help you know where to start.

We hope this post helped you feel empowered to start organizing your photos for scrapbooking. We know that when you take that leap of faith, you’ll find so much joy and satisfaction in preserving your family’s memories and stories.

We hope this artwork has inspired you to document your vacation memories. If you’re not planning on making these layouts soon, make sure to get your Cherish™ how-to book pronto because it’s only available until the end of July, while supplies last! And while you’re at it, be sure to pick up a scrapbook album, too! Remember that during June you can buy one My Legacy™ album and get a second one half off! Looking for a Great Scrapbook Album? We’ve Got You Covered!

Close To My Heart scrapbook albums #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbook #album #memorykeeping

Here at Close To My Heart, we’re serious about helping you preserve your memories with style. That’s why, throughout the month of June, you can buy one My Legacy™ album and get a second one at 50% off! For those of you who are new to Close To My Heart or who would just like to learn a little bit more about our unique scrapbook albums, this is the post for you! We’re going to cover all our bases today and tell you everything about our albums—and some of the awesome products we have to go with them!

We have two different styles of My Legacy™ albums. The photos above show our post-bound style. This style minimizes the gap in between your pages, so your scrapbook album looks professionally bound. The ends of the posts are hidden by the binding, and they feature easy-to-use handles for twisting open the posts and adding pages.

Here’s our other style: D-ring! These albums are a great fit for those who want to be able to add pages quickly and easily. Some people like to use D-ring albums for storing their pages until they finish an album’s worth, and then they move all the pages into a post-bound album for permanent storage—and with our buy-one-get-one-half-off sale, it’s a great time to try this approach!

Above are all the colors that are currently available in the post-bound style.

And here are all the colors that are currently available in the D-ring style.

Now the best part of any scrapbook album is what you keep inside, of course. 🙂 And since we know the memories you want to preserve are precious, we offer high-quality top-load and side-load Memory Protectors™ to keep them safe. We also have some specialty Memory Protectors that can add a lot of variety to your layouts.

Close To My Heart scrapbook albums #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbook #album #memorykeeping

Up first are our divided Memory Protectors for pocket scrapbooking. We have five different styles to choose from—you can check them all out here. These make great additions to your layouts, like you can see above, or you can create an entire pocket scrapbooking album. We recommend using our D-ring album style with these Memory Protectors.

While we’re on the topic of divided Memory Protectors, we have to mention our Pocket Plus™ Memory Protectors. These only cover part of a page, so they are great for adding a few additional photos to your layouts. You can see how they really enhance a traditional layout in the before and after pictures above. For more information about these protectors and for tips on how to design you layouts to incorporate them, check out this blog post.

Close To My Heart scrapbook albums #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbook #album #memorykeeping

We also have Flip Flaps™, which are little individual pockets that come with an adhesive strip. You can attach them to both your pocket or traditional scrapbooking layouts. These come in a variety of sizes and create fun, interactive elements on your pages. For more information about these protectors and for tips on how to use them, check out this blog post.

Close To My Heart scrapbook albums #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbook #album #memorykeeping

A few other noteworthy accessories….These are our spine expanders. When you have layouts with lots of dimension in a post-bound album, you can get an album that looks like this: <. That’s because the part of your protector that holds your page onto the post is thinner than your dimensional page. Placing spine expanders between the pages of your album helps to even out the space so that your album will look more like this: =. It’s a quick fix that makes a world of a difference!

Close To My Heart scrapbook albums #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbook #album #memorykeeping

For post-bound albums with fewer pages, we recommend these 1″ posts. These posts will slim down the spine and allow your pages to be held more snugly between the covers of your album.

Close To My Heart scrapbook albums #ctmh #closetomyheart #scrapbook #album #memorykeeping

Finally, add an identifier to the spine of your album with one of our label holders. These fit both album styles and are a great way to distinguish your albums from one another—especially if you have a lot together on a shelf!

Do you see what we mean about taking memory keeping seriously? 🙂 We want to give you lots of options for preserving your memories! If you have any more questions about our albums, please leave a comment below. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have!

Mini Album Hacks: Part Two

Easy, cute mini albums for preserving your memories! #closetomyheart #ctmh #instalife #minialbum #pocketscrapbooking #craftingEarlier this week, we gave you hacks for embracing our mini Everyday Life™ albums: Just like traditional scrapbooking, you can customize them any way you’d like!

Today we’re really putting the “mini” in “mini albums” with our adorable, baby-sized Instalife™ albums. With bitty pockets for photos, matching pocket cards, and photo overlays with foil designs, these albums come together in a flash but have the same beautiful details as traditional scrapbooking.

Again, we want to address some of the common concerns about scrappin’ on a smaller scale. These mini albums are so much fun, and we know you’ll fall in love with them as soon as you try them out!

Oh, and did we mention our Instalife™ mini album bundles are 30% this month? All the more reason to try something you’ve never tried before!

Okay, let’s talk Instalife!

I’m not sure what I would use this small of an album for…

  • Brag Books: Grandparents love to show off pictures of their grandkids to friends and new acquaintances—it’s just what they do! Give them one of these mini albums, which fit in purses and briefcases, and they can easily slide pictures of their grandkids into the cute mini-sized pockets—no cutting required! You could even get them one of each bundle so they can put all the granddaughters in the pink album and all the grandsons in the blue!
  • Senior Pictures Album: After your graduate gets their senior pictures taken and their invitations are sent out, put the leftover photos in one of these mini albums!
  • Teacher Gift: Create a mini album for the teachers in your life. From karate and swim to school and violin, these teachers will love a personalized album with pictures of their students.
  • Children’s Book: Make a simple children’s book!

You can even preserve your children’s memories at the same time by adding photos of important things in their lives to their book: their favorite stuffed animal, the house they were born in, the family dog, etc.

I don’t know how to get pictures this tiny!

Persnickety Prints is here to help!

What kind of photos work best for an album this small? If I put our family photos in there, we’ll look like ants!

Think close-ups: Headshots work great, as well as close-ups of hands, toes, etc.

How do I journal on these cards? I write a lot!

We know you want to write down important details about your photos, so we purposely design some of the cards to be for journaling.

If you want to get really creative, you can try printing your journaling onto paper or vellum and attaching it to your cards, or even printing directly onto the cards, like we did here!

One last tip for working with this collection: Be sure you remove the protective film from your overlays. They come with this film to protect them from getting scratches, but it’s meant to be peeled off before you use it. Use our piercing tool to get under the film and then peel it off—you’ll be amazed to see how clear the overlay is! One and done!

Mini Album Hacks: Part One

Preserving your memories in a mini album has never looked so cute! #ctmh #closetomyheart #minialbum #scrapbooking #memorykeeping #craftingOur mini albums are a great option for those new to memory keeping, but they’re also great for experienced scrappers. However, if you’ve only ever done traditional scrapbooking, we know you may have some reservations. Let us ease your mind by addressing some common concerns about scrappin’ on a smaller scale.

Today we’re going to focus specifically on our Adventure Mini Album bundles, which are 30% off this month! These bundles feature travel-themed, pre-designed, 3-ring hole-punched pages, a plush striped mini album, and a pack of either our 3″ x 4″, 4″ x 6″, or 6″ x 8″ Memory Protectors™, which are perfect for adding additional photos and other fun things.

Now let’s put that stress to rest by addressing those concerns!

I scrapbook chronologically. What would I use a mini album for? It won’t fit an entire year’s worth of memories!

  • Vacation Album: Try creating a separate album for each vacation you go on. The pre-printed pages in these bundles make it easy to preserve your vacation memories in a flash, so you can relive those memories soon after you return home. These pages also work really well with our state and province stamps. Imagine creating a mini album for a road trip or a new page each time you visit a new place—so fun!
  • Unique Gifts: These bundles are a perfect gift for anyone because they’re so easy to put together—even for those people who don’t think they’re crafters! The travel theme is perfect, too, because everyone and their dog travels. Got a friend leaving on a family trip? How about a niece who just got back from her honeymoon? A college student studying in Switzerland? Give albums to them all!

  • Children’s Scrapbooking: You’ve got the passion for scrappin’, but what about your kids or grandkids? These mini albums can help teach “mini” people the importance of preserving memories. Show them the basics of how to assemble the album, then let them make it their own! They’d love documenting a school field trip, summer camp, or adding pictures about where they want to travel someday.

Where do I put my photos? These small pages got me feelin’ claustrophobic!

The real answer is, just give it a try! There’s really no way to go wrong with these pages, but if you’re really worried, here are a few ideas:

How do I get smaller photos?

Not to fret! Our friends at Persnickety Prints have created a webpage just for us to make printing smaller photos easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Where do I add journaling?

There are lots of different ways to add journaling to these pages. Of course one easy option is just to write on the pages themselves (some of which already have journaling spots for you!). You can also write on shapes cut with a Cricut® machine, like our little thought bubbles here:

Some other options? Write on Complements or our Picture My Life™ journaling cards, which you can slide into the divided Memory Protectors™.

I think the pages are cute, but I really love my Memory Protectors™…

If you love having everything in Memory Protectors™, then go the 6″ x 8″ Memory Protector direction. Simply trim down the pages a little bit to fit inside this pocket and you’re golden.

I love really decking out my scrapbook pages. Pre-printed pages don’t really appeal me…

Think again! You can decorate these pages just as much as you do everything else!

You can even decorate the cover!

Hopefully we’ve helped make mini albums less scary—they really are so much fun once you take that leap of faith!

Magical Consultant Artwork

There are few things we like better than giving away free products, and one of them is looking at amazing artwork created by our Consultants! Today’s our lucky day because we get to do both. 🙂

We challenged our Convention attendees to create a scrapbook layout with Convention photos using our Magical paper packet and then to share their layout on social media using the hashtag #magicalconvention—and boy did they deliver!

Here are our five random winners, who will each receive a brand new My Legacy™ scrapbooking album of her choice:

If you see your artwork here, that means you’re a winner! Please send an email to ctmhblog@closetomyheart.com with your name, shipping address, and preferred My Legacy™ album (remember, choose a NEW one!) using the subject line “Magical Convention.”

There’s more beautiful artwork where this came from, so be sure to search #magicalconvention on Facebook and Instagram to see even more beautiful layouts!

Congrats to our winners! We hope this makes your day a little more magical. 🙂
