You Are Here

There has been some confusion around how to access these collections, so we’ve put together a quick tutorial below to show you how. If you’ve already figured it out on your own, skip to the bottom half of this post to see sample shapes and an artwork example for each collection.

*The following tutorial currently applies to people residing in the United States or Canada, only. (For our Australian and New Zealand crafters, all 13 of these collections are also available through purchasing a digital code from your Consultant which unlocks the shapes in Cricut Design Space™.)

**You will need a Cricut® machine that is Design Space compatible to digitally link your collections to your account. Any of the Explore models or the New Maker will do. If you already own some or all of the Close To My Heart collections in cartridge format, with the right cutting machine, you can link these collections digitally as well. Click here for a short video to learn how.

STEP 1

To start, go to your Close To My Heart Consultant’s website. (If you do not have a Close To My Heart Consultant, visit us here and click on Find a Consultant to find one near you.) Scroll all the way to the bottom of the home page and click on the green Cricut® button.

Make sure to use your Design Space account information to sign in and then continue the checkout process.

ONE FINAL TIP

Each of the shapes in Design Space is given a name and assigned a number. If you click on a shape, for example the first shape of the collection shown above, this information will show up in place of the shape’s image.

Cricut® Collections #ctmh #closetomyheart #ctmhcricut #cricut #completecreativity #seasonofjoy #artfullysent #artbooking #artiste #artistry ##artphilosophy #citysidewalks #flowermarket #hellousa #hellocanada #helloaunz #youarehere #cardmaking #papercrafting #scrapbooking #youreaclassic

If you are looking for one specific shape, and you know its Design Space name or number (including the “#” sign), you can use this information in the search bar to locate it. When we give out project “recipes” (a list of products used), either for our catalogs or on this blog, Cricut® shapes are referenced by the collection from which it comes and its shape number.

The star shape above would then be:

Back to the Basics with Cricut Design Space™—Using Lock/Unlock

We are continuing our review of some of the basic features of Cricut Design Space™ today by taking a closer look at the Lock/Unlock tool. This feature is one of the simplest and most helpful tools in Design Space, and once you learn how to make the most of it, you’ll be able to use it on virtually any project to take your creativity to new heights!

Lock Feature in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #cardmaking #celebrate #artistry #artbooking #HelloUSA

On the card above, we used an assortment of images from the Artbooking, Artistry, and Hello USA Cricut® collections. These collections each lend a different flair to this project, and we love the way they all came together. By branching out and using images from a few different collections, you can create something that’s truly unique and all your own!

As you read along, remember that the steps below show you how to use Design Space on a laptop or desktop computer. If you are using the app on a mobile device, the buttons and tools will be in slightly different places on your screen. Most of these basic features are available on any device.

Lock/Unlock

The Lock/Unlock feature in Design Space allows you to change the height or width of shapes or text. Since most shapes or text blocks won’t automatically fit into your project, Lock/Unlock will be one of your go-to tools as you create your Cricut masterpieces. For this project, we used the Lock/Unlock tool to resize the height or width of each Cricut shape and image to fit seamlessly into this card.

When you want to lock or unlock a shape, image, or block of text, there are two ways to do so—with the button on the toolbar at the top of your screen,

Lock Feature in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #cardmaking #celebrate #artistry #artbooking #HelloUSA

or with the button at the bottom left corner of your shape or image.

Lock Feature in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #cardmaking #celebrate #artistry #artbooking #HelloUSA

Lock/Unlock with Basic Shapes

Basic shapes can be selected from the basic shapes tab in the Design Panel. Although basic shapes are often used as versatile building blocks of great Cricut designs, you’ll probably need to resize or adjust them in order to fit on a project. When you insert a basic shape, it will automatically be locked, meaning, if you try to resize it, the height and width will adjust together. You can make the entire shape bigger or smaller, but you can’t adjust the height or the width individually unless you unlock it. Once you unlock the shape, you can alter just the height or just the width to make sure you have the needed dimensions for your shape. If you want to resize your shape to a specific size, you can enter your measurements into the dimension indicators on the toolbar at the top of your canvas.

Lock Feature in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #cardmaking #celebrate #artistry #artbooking #HelloUSA

For this card, we used the unlock feature to create a 4.25″ x 5.5″ base for our card and a red rectangle layer to go behind the “Celebrate” sentiment. This allowed us to tailor these pieces to fit the card.

Locking/Unlocking More Intricate Shapes

Just like basic shapes, when you insert any shape from any Cricut collection, it will populate on your canvas as a locked image. Resizing one of these shapes with the Lock/Unlock feature is very similar to resizing a basic shape. You’ll just need to pay a little closer attention to any intricate parts of your shape to ensure that it doesn’t get too cramped or warped.

Lock Feature in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #cardmaking #celebrate #artistry #artbooking #HelloUSA

You can see above how the circle medal behind the banner warps into an oval when it is stretched too far horizontally. You’ll want to look out for things like this as you use the Lock/Unlock feature.

In our example card, we resized the pennant banner, the circle medal, and the star accents to fit neatly on the card. By using Lock/Unlock, we were able to work these images into the card design with ease.

Lock/Unlock with Text

Using the Lock/Unlock feature with text is a great way to really expand your creative capacity. 🙂

For our card, we used a Cricut shape to cut the “Celebrate” sentiment. If you choose to include typed-in text rather than an existing shape of text in your project, you can easily resize individual letters using Lock/Unlock. Select the entire text block, ungroup it, and then alter each letter as you choose.

Lock Feature in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #cardmaking #celebrate #artistry #artbooking #HelloUSA

If you’d like to alter the text block as a whole, you can select the entire text block (regroup it if you’ve ungrouped it) and then unlock and resize it as you please.

Put It Together

Lock Feature in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #cardmaking #celebrate #artistry #artbooking #HelloUSA

Follow the steps below to put all of the ideas we discussed today together and make the Celebrate card!

  1. Search for the “Celebrate” sentiment from the Artbooking collection, #M3D5CF, and insert it on your canvas.
  2. Search for the star image from the Artbooking collection, #M3E9BD, and insert it on your canvas. Copy and paste this image to get two stars.
  3. Search for the circle medal image from the Artistry collection, #M4183C8, and insert it on your canvas.
  4. Search for image #M2CCFB18 from the Hello USA collection and insert it on your canvas. (You will only be using the star overlay from this 4th of July image.)
  5. For the card base, insert a square shape from the Shapes tab in the Design Panel. Unlock and resize it to measure 4.25″ x 5.5″.

Tip: Be sure to change the colors of each shape or image as you resize them. This will help you to keep track of which paper you’ll need to use for each cut.

  1. Select a circle shape from the Shapes tab in the Design Panel. Keep the shape locked and resize it to cover one of the small holes in the top of the pennant image. Copy the small circle and cover the other hole. Select the entire image and weld. This should leave you with one solid pennant image piece. Change the color of the pennant to a light blue and resize it to 2.933″ x 5.306″, then center it over your 4.25″ x 5.5″ card base.

Tip: All measurements in this post are W x H.

  1. Select the circle medal shape and resize it to 4″ x 3.52″. Change the color of the banner to blue and the scalloped circle to white. You will need to ungroup this image to do this. Be sure to regroup it when you’re done.
  2. Select the “Celebrate” sentiment and unlock it. Resize it to .75” in height. Then, place it on top of the circle medal piece and center it in the banner. Rotate the “Celebrate” sentiment until it fits within the banner.
  3. Select both, the circle medal and the “Celebrate” sentiment, and group them together. Select the Slice option from the toolbar at the bottom of the Layers Panel.
  4. Select a square shape from the Shapes tab in the Design Panel. Resize it to 2.806″ x 1.215″ and change its color to a dark red. This piece will form the background for the “Celebrate” sentiment.
  5. Select the circle medal and place it over the red layer square you just created. Make sure the red piece is completely covered by the medal. Group this entire image together and center it over the blue pennant.
  6. Ungroup the “Happy 4th” image and delete everything except the star base and overlay. Change the color of these pieces to yellow.
  7. Select Make It in the top right corner and cut your project pieces.
  8. Assemble your card and embellish with watercolor paint and sequins!

We hope you enjoyed this brief overview of the Lock/Unlock tool. Be sure to check out our next Design Space post, where we’ll explore more applications of the Attach feature! Back to the Basics with Cricut Design Space™

No matter your comfort level with Cricut Design Space™, it’s good for everyone to revisit the basics. Today, and in a few more blog posts in the upcoming months, we’re going to explain some of the basic tools in Design Space and then illustrate how to use these tools with images from each Close To My Heart Cricut® collection. Making sure you have the basics down will only increase your confidence as a Design Space user, unlocking so many creative options for your crafting!

Cricut Basics #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricutbasics #cricut #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cardmaking #papercrafting #papercrafts #dreambig #memorykeeping

On the page above, we’ve used a banner from the Artistry Cricut® collection to create the title piece. Artistry has a wide variety of words and shapes including titles, sentiments, backgrounds, borders, and banners that you can use for any project theme. Whether you are celebrating a birthday or holiday, or scrapbooking everyday moments, you have lots of choices with this collection, and even more when using the tools in Design Space.

As you read along, remember that the steps below show you how to work in Design Space from a desktop or laptop computer. If you use the app on a mobile device, the buttons and tools will be located in slightly different places on your screen, but the same features are available on any device. Let’s get started by taking a look at the project canvas.

Your Canvas

Whether you are new to Design Space or a seasoned pro, it’s useful to identify the different parts of the canvas and where to find particular functions and tools.

Cricut Basics #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricutbasics #cricut #designspace #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cardmaking #papercrafting #papercrafts #dreambig #memorykeeping

  • Design Panel: This panel, on the left side of the canvas, is where you add new elements to your project like basic shapes, images, text, and more.
  • Header: The Header is just the fancy title for the dark gray strip across the top of the canvas. This is where you can click to view the menu and see your project name. The Header is also where you’ll find a few more VERY useful things, like Save and Make It in the top right corner. 🙂
  • Edit Bar: Below the Header, you’ll see the Edit bar. This section of the canvas houses many of the tools you’ll need to manipulate specific shapes and text. Here you can find tools like Linetype, Size, and Rotate. There are also options to Align and Arrange shapes, and most importantly, the top left corner is where you’ll find Undo and Redo, just in case you make a mistake. When you are working with text, more tools for adjusting the text will appear in the Edit bar.
  • Layers Panel: The Layers panel holds tools that you might need when working with multiple images together. Tools like Group, UnGroup, and Duplicate are at the top of this panel. These tools let you copy, combine, or separate images. The Slice, Weld, Attach, and Contour features are at the bottom of the Layers panel.
  • Color Sync Panel: The Color Sync panel and the Layers panel share the same space on the canvas. To see this panel, click Color Sync, instead of Layers. This allows you to match colors used in your project’s shapes. Grouping them together by color makes it easy for you to cut shapes from the same paper.

Searching for Specific Shapes

#M4171A5

Have you ever wondered what this number means? You might see a number like this one in instructions or recipes we provide for artwork that use Cricut® shapes. This number is the image number in Design Space. When inserting an image on your canvas, you can search for a specific image by entering the entire number in the search box. Make sure to include the “#” symbol when you search.

Cricut Basics #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricutbasics #cricut #designspace #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cardmaking #papercrafting #papercrafts #dreambig #memorykeeping

To search for a specific image, click Images on the left side of your canvas. Then enter the image number in the search box in the top right corner, just like we did to find a the banner used in this project.

Changing the Size of Shapes

Cricut Basics #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricutbasics #cricut #designspace #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cardmaking #papercrafting #papercrafts #dreambig #memorykeeping

A simple tool you’ll use over and over again is Size. In the Edit bar, you’ll see Size and then the width and height of a selected image. You’ll also notice a lock symbol. When the lock is closed, if you adjust the width of the shape, for example, Design Space will automatically change the height to match the proportions. If you want to change both, simply click on the lock. It will unlock, allowing you to manipulate either one as desired.

Grouping and Ungrouping Shapes

Some images in Design Space have multiple layers. When you insert the image on the canvas, the layers will be grouped together. To manipulate each one individually, you have to use UnGroup. Simply select the image and click on UnGroup.

Cricut Basics #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricutbasics #cricut #designspace #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cardmaking #papercrafting #papercrafts #dreambig #memorykeeping

You can see that this banner image has two layers, one solid base layer and one overlay with the words “DREAM Big.” To make changes to each one individually, we ungrouped the image.

 Duplicating Shapes

Cricut Basics #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricutbasics #cricut #designspace #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cardmaking #papercrafting #papercrafts #dreambig #memorykeeping

Another frequently used tool in Design Space is Duplicate. This lets you make a copy of any shape or shapes you have selected. Just click on the shape and click Duplicate at the top of the Layers panel.

Welding Shapes

Cricut Basics #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricutbasics #cricut #designspace #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cardmaking #papercrafting #papercrafts #dreambig #memorykeeping

The word weld basically means to unite. While it often refers to metals, in Design Space, when you use this tool, you can combine, or “unite,” multiple shapes into one image, removing extra cut lines. Simply arrange the images as desired. Select all of them at the same time and click Weld. Now, instead of many separate images, they will be combined together as one single shape. This is how we created the solid base piece for our title.

Putting It Together (Search, Size, Duplicate, and Weld)

Cricut Basics #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricutbasics #cricut #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cardmaking #papercrafting #papercrafts #dreambig #memorykeeping

The title at the top of this page is made using the tools we’ve reviewed today to manipulate one image in Design Space.  Follow the steps below to put it all together and make your own!

  1. First, search for the image, #M4171A5, and insert it on your canvas.
  2. Ungroup the image.
  3. Resize the solid banner to a height of 3″, leaving the width locked. Then, duplicate and resize to have six additional banners, two 2″ and four 1.5″.
  4. Arrange the banners like you see on the page with the solid 3″ banner in the center and one 2″ and 1.5″ banner on either side. Click and drag your cursor over all the images to select them all. Then, click Weld. This gives you the solid piece to go behind the remaining banners.
  5. We, then, went ahead and colored the additional 2″ banners light yellow, and the additional 1.5″ banners pink. This just helps you cut the right color of paper or cardstock.
  6. Select Make It in the top right corner and cut your project pieces. Then, assemble your title like you see on the page.

Keep in mind, to use the same image we did, you must own the Artistry Cricut® collection. You will also need a Cricut® machine that is Design Space compatible (any of the Explore or the new Maker machines).

Stay tuned for another back to the basics post next month featuring more Design Space tools with the Flower Market collection to make… cards!

Custom Banners in Cricut Design Space™

As we celebrate National Scrapbooking Month, why not combine the vacation vibes of the Postcard Perfect paper packet with the endless possibilities available with our Cricut® collections and Cricut Design Space™? Using the variety of banners in the Artistry Cricut® collection, you can cut personalized text using the Slice tool. This gives you unlimited flexibility to create titles for your scrapbook pages that perfectly capture what you love about your photos and memories.Custom Banners in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #ctmhpostcardperfect #postcardperfect #nationalscrapbookingmonth #nsm #ctmhnsm #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cricut #cricutdesignspace #designspace #ctmhdesignspace #ctmhcricut #slicetool #slice #banners #banner #sunshine #summer #vacation #youarehere #ctmhyouarehere #artistry #ctmhartistryWe made this scrapbook page by slicing text in a banner image from the Artistry Cricut® collection. This allowed us to create a unique title to match the sunny, happy moment captured in this family vacation photo. Today we are going to give you step-by-step instructions to create a banner title just like the one you see here using a banner, font, and the Slice tool in Design Space™.Custom Banners in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #ctmhpostcardperfect #postcardperfect #nationalscrapbookingmonth #nsm #ctmhnsm #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cricut #cricutdesignspace #designspace #ctmhdesignspace #ctmhcricut #slicetool #slice #banners #banner #sunshine #summer #vacation #youarehere #ctmhyouarehere #artistry #ctmhartistryBefore getting started, make sure you own the Artistry and You Are Here Cricut® collections to use the same banner and font that we did in this project. You will also need a Cricut® machine that is Design Space™ compatible (any of the Explore models or the new Maker) to link your collections to your account. (If you do not know how to do this, click here.)

The steps below show how to work in Design Space™ from a desktop or laptop computer. If you use the app on a mobile device, the buttons and tools will be located in slightly different places on your screen, but the same features are available on any device.

1. Sign in to Cricut Design Space™ at design.cricut.com.

Then, search for image #M418562 in the search box at the top. This is the exact banner you need to recreate our example. Just select it and click Insert Images in the bottom right corner to add it to your canvas.

3. Resize and ungroup the banner image.

Change the height, only, to 3.5″. Design Space™ automatically resizes the width to the correct proportions as long as the lock icon above the size is locked. Then, ungroup the banner by selecting the image and clicking UnGroup in the Layers panel in the top right. This will leave one solid banner and one outline banner.

4. Duplicate the solid banner.

Select the banner outline, and then click Arrange in the Tools panel. Select Move To Front to make sure the outline will move over the top of the solid piece, rather than behind it. If your text needs to be adjusted, move or rotate as needed, and then check placement again.

8. Use Slice to cut text into the banner.

This will allow the Slice option to become available in the bottom right corner. Then, click Slice.

9. Delete extra text.

Both lines of text can be deleted by selecting the text and clicking the red x.

10. Repeat with second line of text, “SUNSHINE IN.”

Custom Banners in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #ctmhpostcardperfect #postcardperfect #nationalscrapbookingmonth #nsm #ctmhnsm #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cricut #cricutdesignspace #designspace #ctmhdesignspace #ctmhcricut #slicetool #slice #banners #banner #sunshine #summer #vacation #youarehere #ctmhyouarehere #artistry #ctmhartistryRepeat the same process to slice the second line of text for “SUNSHINE IN” on the banner to complete your title. Keep in mind, if you feel like the text is too tight on the banner, you can adjust the height to make it slightly smaller.

11. Cut your project!

Custom Banners in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #ctmhpostcardperfect #postcardperfect #nationalscrapbookingmonth #nsm #ctmhnsm #scrapbooking #scrapbook #cricut #cricutdesignspace #designspace #ctmhdesignspace #ctmhcricut #slicetool #slice #banners #banner #sunshine #summer #vacation #youarehere #ctmhyouarehere #artistry #ctmhartistryFor our page, we used our Lagoon and Lemon cardstock. Keep in mind our cardstock is two-toned. One side has the full strength color, and the other side is a lighter hue. Use the light side of Lagoon for the banner with text and the dark side of Lagoon for the banner outline. If you like, you can also assign colors to your project pieces before cutting the project. This makes it easy to see what cardstock to use as you cut. When you’re ready, click the green Make It button in the top right corner and follow the prompts. Then, insert your cardstock, and you’ll have all the pieces you need to create this project on your own!

You can use this same process to create your own titles from banners found in the Artistry collection. With so many options, you can customize your titles to match any scrapbooking project! And don’t forget to take advantage of this month’s National Scrapbooking Month special with the Postcard Perfect paper packet and other coordinating products to make a page just like ours.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™

One of the easiest tools to use in Cricut Design Space™ is Contour. We love how this feature allows you to hide portions of an image and remove unwanted cut lines. This gives you even more flexibility and customization with your Close To My Heart Cricut® collections. Shapes that have patterns or cuts inside them can be turned into solid images!

18-0071-blog-page

We created this scrapbook page using one flower image from the Artistry Cricut® Collection. With the Contour feature, we took the striped flower and created a solid flower. By varying the size and colors of both flower shapes, we ended up with the delightful page you see here. Today we are going to walk you through the steps of creating your own contoured flowers in Design Space to make a similar creation!

In order to use the same shapes that we did in this project, you’ll need to own the Cricut® Artistry and Flower Market collections. You will also need to have a Cricut® machine that is Design Space compatible (any of the Explore models or the new Maker) to link your collections to your account. (If you do not know how to do this, click here.)

As you follow the outlined steps below, keep in mind that this shows you how to use features in Design Space from a desktop or laptop computer. If you use the app on a mobile device, the buttons and tools will be located in slightly different places on your screen.

1. Sign in to Cricut Design Space™ at design.cricut.com.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnLog in with your Cricut ID and password, and then select the green New Project button in the top right corner.

2. Insert the flower image.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnTo add this specific flower image from the Artistry collection to your canvas, click Images on the left. Then search for image #M40FD89 in the search box at the top. This will give you the exact flower you need for the project. Just select it and click Insert Images to add it to your canvas.

3. Ungroup the flower image.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnWhen an image like this one has multiple layers, you first need to ungroup the image before contouring. Ungroup the flower by selecting the image and then clicking UnGroup in the Layers panel on the right.

4. Delete the dark purple flower.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnTo create this page, you only need one of the flowers in this image. Now that you’ve ungrouped the image, delete the dark purple flower by clicking the red x at the top left corner of the image.

5. Duplicate the flower.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnYou will use solid and striped flowers on this page. This means you’ll need both the original flower and the one you are going to contour on your canvas. Duplicate the lined flower by selecting Duplicate in the Layers panel.

6. Contour the flower to create a solid image.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnTo contour, select one of the striped flowers and then click Contour in the bottom right corner of the Layers panel. A pop-up box will appear on your screen, just like the screenshot above. In this instance, you’ll select Hide All Contours in the bottom right corner of the pop-up box. This lets you hide all the contours without having to click on each one individually. If you only wanted to contour part of your image, you could select only the portions you wanted to hide. After hiding the contours, you now have a solid flower shape with no interior cuts.

7. Duplicate and resize the flowers.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnDuplicate and resize flowers for your page as desired. To resize the flowers like we did, select the image and change the height under Size. We used flowers at heights of 1.5″, 1.75″, and 2.25″. Leave the size “locked” so that when you change the height, it will automatically resize the width, keeping the shape proportions the same.

8. Assign the flowers colors.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnAssigning colors to your flowers will make it much easier when it’s time to cut the project with your Cricut® machine. Design Space will group all images in the same color together for cutting. You can easily group shapes together under different colors using the Color Sync panel, like you see in the screenshot above.

9. Insert the banner image.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnThis page also uses the Contour feature to make a solid banner for a small sentiment. Insert the small banner by clicking Images and searching for #M416E8C.

10. Ungroup and contour the banner.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnAfter the image is on your canvas, ungroup the banner, just like you did with the flower. Then select the banner and click Contour in the Layers panel. For this image, select only the individual cuts you want to hide, instead of selecting “Hide All Contours.” Click on the X and O portions of the banner and you’ll see them change color, indicating that they will no longer be cut out of the banner shape.

11. Resize and assign colors to the banners.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnThe banner images on our page are a height of 1.5″. Resize the banners just like you did with the flowers, leaving the size lock in place. Enter 1.5 for the height, and the width will automatically resize with the correct proportions. Then assign colors to each banner piece for cutting.

12. Insert the leaves image, then duplicate and resize them.

Contouring Shapes in Cricut Design Space™ #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #designspace #design #space #flower #leaves #floral #shapes #cutting #flowermarket #artistry #collection #diy #howto #tutorial #learnAdd finishing touches by including some leaves from the Cricut® Flower Market collection. Add the image by searching for #MD37FB8. Then duplicate and resize the leaf image as desired. We used leaves at heights of 1″ and 1.5″.

13. Add circles for flower centers.

There are two ways to add the small circles to your project. You can search for and add image #M417CAC, ungroup the image, and delete the “EEK!” circle, which will leave you with a solid circle. Resize it to 0.5″, duplicate, and assign a color. The second option is to insert a circle from the Shapes option on the left side of your screen. Select the circle, and a solid circle will be added to your canvas.

14. Cut your project!

When you’re ready, click the green Make It button in the top right corner and follow the prompts. Your Cricut® machine will group cuts together according to the colors you assigned. Just insert your cardstock and you’ll have all the pieces you need to create this project on your own!

Now, you’ve successfully contoured a flower and a banner from only two images in the Cricut® Artistry collection. Using contouring, you can create solid shapes, like we did with the flowers and banner, to create dimension and variety in your projects. There are so many creative ways you can use this feature to adjust the shapes in your Close To My Heart Cricut® collections to get even more options in your crafting! Enjoy!

Working with Fonts in Cricut Design Space™

When you peruse any of the Close To My Heart catalogs, it is easy to see that we love using our exclusive Cricut® collections to add to our scrapbooking, cardmaking, and papercrafting artwork. Our Cricut® collections are purposefully designed with a wide variety of shapes and styles so you can always find just what you need to complete any project. Additionally, most of our collections come with their very own unique font.

Today, we want to go over how easy it is to work with these fonts in Cricut Design Space™ by sharing step-by-step instructions to recreate this card from the Annual Inspirations idea book:

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

Before getting started, there are a few things you will need to make this card, other than the paper. First, if you wish to use the same fonts we did here, you must own both the Flower Market and Artistry Cricut® collections. You will also need to have a Cricut® machine that is Design Space compatible (any of the Explore models or the new Maker) to link your collections to your account. (If you do not know how to do this, click here.)

As you follow the outlined steps below, keep in mind that we are showing you how to work in Design Space using a desktop or laptop computer. If you prefer to use the available app on a mobile device, the buttons and tools will be located in slightly different places on your screen.

Now, let’s get to it!

1.  Sign in to Cricut Design Space™ at design.cricut.com.

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

Log in with your Cricut ID and password, and then select the green New Project button in the top right corner.

2.  Insert text by clicking Text on the left side of your screen.

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

For this project, we need to add text for each line separately. Let’s begin by typing “Be” in the text box.

3.  Change fonts by clicking on Fonts in the Text Edit bar.

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

You’ll see all font options, but we want to use the font in the Artistry collection to recreate our card. To locate this font, type “Artistry” in the Search Fonts box. Select this font, and then adjust the font height in the Text Edit bar to 1.75″.

4.  Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to create the “YOU” and “tiful” text in your project.

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

Don’t forget to change the font and the font height for each. Change “YOU” to the Flower Market font with a height of 1″. Change “tiful” to the Artistry font with a height of 1.25″. You can see where to change the font height in the screenshot above.

5. Next, arrange the text.

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

Move the text pieces around to create the look that you see on the card. You’ll want adjust the letter spacing in the Text Edit bar for “YOU” to make it to overlap with “Be” and “tiful”. The example above shows how we arranged the text, with the letter spacing on “YOU” changed to 1.9.

6.  Weld your text together to create one group of text instead of three separate pieces.

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

To use the weld tool, make sure each line of your text overlaps. You’ll also need to make sure you have selected all three text pieces. Select all the pieces by clicking on the top left of the text and drag across to highlight all three lines. Next, click Weld in the bottom right corner, in the Layers panel.

7.  To create the piece for your card front, insert a square shape using the “Shapes” option on the left side.

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

Resize the shape to a 3.25″ x 6″ rectangle.

8.  Move your sentiment behind the rectangle.

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

You’ll still be able to see the outline box for the text to make sure it’s centered. Hold down the “shift” button on your keyboard and select the rectangle. Once both the text and the rectangle are selected, click Slice in the bottom right corner, next to Weld.

9.  You should now have three separate pieces.

Working with Fonts in Design Space #ctmh #closetomyheart #cricut #design #space #font #fonts #beyoutiful #beautiful #card

You’ll see the slice results on the left in the Layers panel. Just move your pieces around to view each one individually. You can delete the two separate text pieces since you won’t need these in your project.

10.  All that’s left is to cut your project!

Click the green Make It button in the top right corner and follow the prompts. To create the same look as the example from Annual Inspirations, just add a solid piece of cardstock behind your cut Cricut® piece.

That’s it! You’ve now successfully sliced and welded fonts to make a “BeYOUtiful” card! You can use this same concept to create other unique card sentiments or scrapbooking titles. If you want to make this project again, be sure to save it before moving on to your next creation!

A Cricut® Christmas!

The “most wonderful time of the year” deserves equally wonderful scrapbook pages, wouldn’t you agree? In the spirit of the season, we are sharing four scrapbook pages that show how Cricut® Artistry can make your Christmas memories absolutely magical!

First off, let’s have a look at this classy piece:Let Cricut® help you craft some Christmas memories! #closetomyheart #ctmh #cricut #christmasShapes from the Artistry cartridge add a festive feeling to this page, especially the layered deer head that literally pops right off the page with the help of some 3-D foam tape. The Cricut® Artistry collection also gets credit for those delicate two-toned holly leaves.

What other details do we love about this page? We love the calendar card from the Picture My Life™ Through the Year scrapbooking program. We also love the “joy” sentiment on the bottom-left corner of the page; it was made using white embossing powder, giving it the look of snow in stark contrast to a nighttime sky.

Speaking of snow . . .Let Cricut® help you craft some Christmas memories! #closetomyheart #ctmh #cricut #christmasThere’s no easier way to cut intricate snowflakes than with your Cricut® Artistry cartridge! With some watercolor paint splatters, mini snowflake stamps, and bitty sparkles, these flakes become something really special. It may seem counterintuitive to put white snowflakes on white cardstock, but you can see it definitely works! The snowflakes add a subtle background and texture to the cardstock, which has us dreaming of a white Christmas!

And since we scrapbookers are all about getting the most out of our papers, we’ve got a clever Cricut® trick for you to try out. After cutting out shapes with your Cricut®, use that sheet of cardstock as an overlay, like in this example:Unknown-15See how the snowflake-shaped spaces become stunning designs on this page? Let’s zoom in on that.Unknown-17Try out all sorts of different backgrounds behind your cutouts. We used white shimmer trim and silver foil tape, in addition to clustered embellishments, to add the wonder to this winter wonderland. When you have all your backgrounds in place, attach the cardstock with the cutouts with 3-D foam tape so it pops.

Feeling inspired? Well just wait until you see all the Cricut® magic on this page!Unknown-18You know, we heard Santa Claus was coming to town, so we really went to town with the Cricut® cuts on this page—Santa is made of four different layers of paper! And the trees and “Joy” tag are each made of three layers! What’s great about the Cricut® Artistry collection though is that it makes creating elaborate scenes like this simple and fun. You also get to decide which scenes to create and how to arrange the cuts on the page.

The Santa scene pairs perfectly with our White Pines paper, and some watercolors and embellishments really top this page off perfectly.

Ready to make your own Christmas masterpiece? Then pull out your Cricut® and put on your thinking cap—or Santa hat—for a day of holiday crafting! Make sure to use the hashtag #cricutartistry when sharing your creations online!
