I want to thank everyone who posted or mailed a birthday card for me. I was overwhelmed by the beautiful artwork and thoughtful messages you shared—you truly made my birthday one to remember. I am grateful for all you do to make Close To My Heart feel like family, lending your time and talents to help lift others up.
I want to share some of the beautiful artwork you created. I know it will inspire our readers, just like it inspired me. Here are just a handful of the beautiful birthday cards:
I wish I could share all of the artwork here! It was so fun to look at your sweet cards. Each one of you is unique, and I can see that through your artwork—it represents you!
As was mentioned on the blog before, we have selected 20 random people who have posted a card. These 20 winners will get the Penelope paper packet and the Penelope Complements. I’m lucky enough to get to announce them today! Here they are:
If your name is in the list above, please email your name and mailing address to firstname.lastname@example.org using the subject line “Birthday giveaway.” We can’t wait to send you your prizes!
I just want to close by telling you again how grateful I am for this act of kindness. Your cards touched my heart. I am so lucky to have each of you as part of our Close To My Heart family. Know that I care about you dearly.
We sure love our CEO and founder, Jeanette Lynton. As a pioneer in the stamping and papercrafting industry, she has put so much time and heart into helping others discover their creativity and preserve their memories. She truly is one-of-a-kind.
Jeanette’s birthday is in March, and we want your help in giving her a birthday surprise to remember. As you know, a handmade card speaks a thousand words, so here’s what we’d like you to do:
Create a birthday card for Jeanette, snap a photo of it, and post it to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #cards4jeanette. Feel free to post a message to Jeanette with the picture if you’d like.
On her birthday, we’ll show Jeanette all the cards you have made by searching this hashtag on social media. Beautiful artwork made by people she cares about so dearly will be sure to touch her heart.
We’ll also randomly select 20 people who have posted a card and give them a prize. We’ll announce the winners on the blog on March 28.
Make sure to post your cards before then, and thank you in advance for your help in celebrating the extraordinary life of this special woman.
December is here, and you know what that means—it’s party season! Whether you’re celebrating Christmas, New Year’s Eve, or other special celebrations, you’re bound to host at least one festive event soon, and Close To My Heart wants to help make your party the cutest one on the block!
First let’s welcome in Christmas —or rather, let this Christmas banner welcome your guests in!For this banner, layering is the name of the game. Chocolate cardstock letters behind their Cranberry counterparts create a shadowed look, and the holly leaves appear beautifully real thanks to two layers in different colors of cardstock.
For an adorable centerpiece, it’s amazing how well a wrapped box and some Cricut® ingenuity can “spruce” up some sprigs, eh? 🙂 Learn more about how to make those beautiful blossoms by watching this video:
Here’s one other tip to keep in mind when replicating this centerpiece: The holly berry branches are actually three pieces of cardstock. Cut two Chocolate branches, and cut off the berries. Then cut one Cranberry branch, and glue it in between the Chocolate branches sandwich style. With all this help, you’ll create a showstopper centerpiece that will have your guests “oohing” and “ahhhing!”
And of course no party is complete without some cupcakes! Our Cricut® Artiste collection includes all sorts of cupcake liners. Some glittery stars make great cupcake toppers and tie all of these pieces together. The stars were cut out of gold glitter paper with the help of our Cricut® Artbooking collection, and they really make this trio the perfect ensemble!
But even if your party isn’t for Christmas, we’ve got you covered! If you’re celebrating New Year’s Eve, a birthday, or something else entirely, then the Kaleidoscope paper packet is your new best friend! This banner is certain to brighten up any room it’s in (even on the coldest winter nights!), and it’s perfect for celebrations all year round. To get this look, attach strips of paper together (so they have the same pattern on each side), and stitch them in a long line with your sewing machine. Voila!
The party centerpiece here is just as spunky as the banner! In addition to being a great decoration, the decorated sticks could be used for super fun photos, party games, or favors.
And just as it added class to our Christmas pieces, our gold glitter paper is back! These liners have a non-glittery paper on the inside of the liners to keep the glitter on the outside! The cupcakes are topped off with spunky little tassels of cardstock, cut and glued around the tops of toothpicks. They look kind of like fireworks, and they’re just the thing to “spark” a conversation with your guests.
We know you’ll enjoy creating these beautiful pieces of artwork—and we know you’ll love the compliments that will follow, too! No matter what you’re celebrating in the coming weeks, may all your celebrations be merry and bright!

One of everyone’s favorite things about Convention is having the chance to see the newest products in an up-close and personal setting. Nowhere does this happen like it does at Extravaganza.
At this fast and furious (but super fun) session, everyone gets to see almost every new product used in artwork created by Consultants. These Consultant artists take 20 minutes to teach ideas and techniques they used to create their mini museums of amazing artwork, filling attendees’ heads with an incredible amount of ideas for what to do with all that is new in the annual idea book. It is one of the BEST parts of Convention!
At last year’s Extravaganza in Anaheim, some very talented artists showed off their work. Though the products featured here have been around for several months now, the ideas are so fresh, they’ll have you seeing things in a brand new light. Enjoy this little sampling of the awesomeness we saw then, and get excited for the awesomeness we’re going to see again in just a few weeks!
Tresa Black created these incredible projects with the pages from My Crush® books, both on and off the page.
Sara Batkin took the Base & Bling line by storm by introducing this array of beautiful goodies—some for wearing, others for sharing.
Michelle Snyder reminded us of the joy of not only keeping memories, but also of making them with her collection of clever party creations.
Exciting? Most definitely! Convention is an event just for Consultants, so sign up to be one yourself! Then YOU will be among the first to see this level of gorgeous artwork and gather inspiring ideas when you attend Convention this year.
Not quite sure what to expect at your first Convention? Here’s a look at the fun and creativity that takes place.
Spring always brings a rush of new joys! It seems that love, weddings, flowers, sunshine, and even babies come pouring into our hearts all at once during this season. It’s a beautiful and welcome renewal after a cold, dormant winter.
With so many beautiful things blossoming all around us, it only makes sense to celebrate. Whether that’s through a bridal shower, a baby shower, a birthday party, a wedding reception, or simply an afternoon of crafting, we believe that everyone has something to celebrate this time of year.
And what’s a celebration without an invitation? Why, a very lonely celebration of course. You know what they say: the invitation sets the tone for the party! So we mined the Seasonal Expressions 2 idea book for invitation stamp sets just right for ringing in spring. Marvel at the jewels we discovered!
C1612 My Acrylix® Shower Flowers
The flowers in this stamp set are to the Blossom paper packet as sunshine is to blue skies—they were made for each other! Use them in tandem to create an invitation that will have your guests rushing to your party so quickly they’ll blow the blossoms on the trees clean off!
B1478 My Acrylix® Ice-Cold Summer
The icy sparkles crystallized on these lemon slices look good enough to eat! We love the bright colors and shapes from this stamp set that make the invitation a party in itself. Can you imagine how happy you’d feel if this splash of life arrived in your mailbox?
If making your own invitations feels a little intimidating, just think of it as an alternative form of cardmaking! With one stamp set, you can create a collection of invitations that will make each of your guests feel special and appreciated—a little act of kindness that is well worth your creative efforts.
So open up the windows of your home (and heart) to spring! Let the fragrances, light, and even the occasional rain shower into your life. Breathe it all in. Even if your party is a long way off, today is always worth celebrating!
Yesterday we had our traditional Staff Appreciation Breakfast, catered by the endearing Waffle Love food truck. The sight of this colorfully painted truck pulling into our parking lot was more than enough to brighten our day! Our mouths started watering just thinking about the crispy sweetness and creamy decadence of the waffles inside the truck. They are so yummy! In my perfect world, they would bring the corporate office breakfast every day.It was wonderful to spend a beautiful March morning enjoying these fantastic waffles with my Close To My Heart family. These great people work so hard to keep the company running at its best, and I love to show them my appreciation in ways that are fun for everyone. And where there are waffles, there are always smiles.
There were some great memories shared together yesterday morning. I believe that all good things in life are better when they’re shared—including birthdays. And guess what? Today just so happens to be mine! It’s hard to believe that March 27 has come around again, but I’m so excited that it has. Birthdays are a beautiful gift and a touching reminder of the past years of life we’ve been blessed with—ups, downs, and everything in between.
This year I want to share my birthday with each of you in an extra special way: I want to be the one who gives the presents! I’ll be giving away 10 special birthday bundles that each contain a Workshops on the Go® Blossom Cardmaking Kit and the four ink pads you’ll need to make the cards, which are Archival Black Exclusive Inks™ Pad, Honey Exclusive Inks™ Pad, Pear Exclusive Inks™ Pad, and the Smoothie Exclusive Inks™ Pad.Leave a comment below for your chance to win! We’ll select 4 commenters from the blog, 3 from Facebook, and 3 from Instagram. Comment in all three places to increase your chances! We’ll announce the winners on the blog on Tuesday, March 31.
So I guess what I should really say is happy birthday to YOU! May the year ahead be full of blessings.
We’re back with the final installment of the birthday series, and we’ve saved one of the most exciting parts for last—party favors!
Your favors are the finale for your party, the little piece that walks away with every guest. You want them to make a statement, but mostly you want them to be quick and easy!
Here we have a handful of ideas for favors that you can make quickly, but beautifully, with your Close To My Heart products. Have a blast experimenting with what favor is right for your party and then pick one to make!
Tuck your treat into a Designer Creations paper bag. Simply fold over the top and secure it with a mini staple, a mini clothespin, or a touch of adhesive, and you’ll have a secure package. Add a decorative touch with a Cricut® cut and a few of your favorite embellishments.
Enjoy the simplicity of a Cut Above™ treat bag kit. The kit comes with 10 different bags and all the necessary trimmings, so most of the work is already done for you; all you need to do is assemble it! You can personalize the bag with a few additional embellishments. Here we’ve switched things up by using the color-coordinated sticker from the kit as an accessory for the tag instead of its intended use as a candy topper.
Small or large, a Cricut® Artiste box is always a hit with friends and family! Wrap up a small treat in good style with a pillow box like this, or any of the other great boxes available on the cartridge. Decorate your little package to your liking until you’re sure you’ll delight your recipients. When cut from the Confetti Wishes papers, the boxes are already so cute you hardly need to add anything more!
We hope you enjoy planning every last detail of your birthday parties this coming year. If you have more ideas you wish to share with the rest of us, be sure to leave a comment below. Happy birthday-izing!

To create both a support and a cover-all for the behind-the-scenes work of your crown, trace the outer edges of the tiara you cut from the Artiste cartridge onto Confetti Wishes B&T paper, trim, and adhere behind the original. Use Shimmer Trim to fill in select negative spaces if desired. Trace a second crown shape to place on the back of the entire centerpiece once you’ve finished.
After you pleat each of the yo-yos, adhere them to a small square of cardstock to make it easier to attach them to the base.
To create a headband for the centerpiece, cut two 1 ½” tall strips at a length that will fit the head of your royal guest of honor. Attach them to the centerpiece and adhere the ends together when it’s time to fit the crown.
To create the fashionably distressed embossed swirls, use a sponge dauber to get just the right silvery look.
You can make your sparkles match whatever color scheme you end up using! Just use ShinHan™ Touch Twin™ markers to color the sparkles.
Use both thin and regular 3-D foam tape to create differing dimensions on your crown.

Tips for the jeweler:
Download this free crown pattern. Trace it onto the birthday hat cut from the Cricut® Artiste cartridge and then cut the crown shape from the birthday hat to create a crown bedazzled with star shapes. Back with your choice of B&T paper.
Trace your main crown shape again, this time onto B&T paper. Set it aside and save it for the end of your project, when you will attach it to the back of the entire centerpiece to cover all of the behind-the-scenes work of your crown.
To create a headband for the centerpiece, cut two 1 ½” tall strips at a length that will fit the head of your royal king or queen. Attach the strips to the centerpiece and adhere the ends together when it’s time to fit the crown.
After you cut the overlay from the Cricut® Artbooking cartridge, use the negative chevron strips to blast the planets and other space paraphernalia into outer space. Or should we say outer crown? 😉
Wondering how to get those out-of-this-world waves that you see on Saturn? The magic comes from the Jumping Geometrics stamp set (D1637). Use a sponge dauber on the ring to create an embossed, star-dusted gleam.
Use both thin and regular 3-D foam tape to create differing dimensions on your crown.
We hope your little ones enjoy being royalty for a day! Be sure to give them an extra dramatic bow of honor, just from us.
Onward we go with our birthday celebration this month—just because we can. (Hey, everyone needs a reason to celebrate in January!) We’ve discussed the important matter of capturing birthday memories in your scrapbook pages, so now we’ll delve into the other delights you’ll need for the day of the event. Today’s special: birthday cards!
Even after the cake is all gobbled up and the decorations torn down, a card can stick around for a long time. It can be a gift in itself, as deserving of a child’s attention as any of the others they open on their special day. Using some of the suggestions below you can really show your love by the thought and care you put into your cards.
The wacky Love Ya Silly stamp set is a definite crowd pleaser! These little fellas add a lot of personality. You can create all sorts of adorably hilarious scenes with them.
Tie your card together by repeatedly using the same color. Here we’ve used a piece of Topiary striped washi tape, Topiary mini chevron ribbon, a sheet of Topiary from the Paper Fundamentals Enchantment assortment, Topiary and Pear cardstock balloons, and a green epoxy Bubble as an eyeball. We’ve even added a touch of Topiary to the stamped sentiment using the super-trendy, eye-popping ombré stamping technique. Does your recipient have a favorite color? Use it!
Try daring color combos—this card features the same stamp in a wide variety of colors.
Also, try mixing and matching stamp sets for variety. Could you tell that this card uses three different sets? The trail of slime the monster left behind didn’t come from the Love Ya Silly set at all; it was actually done with the Brushstrokes set, the same set used to create the colorful background.
Have you got a little one that’s ecstatic over anything with an engine? Try a stamp set like this!
Paper-piece your stamped images to compose a complete image that really stands out. Use your markers to shade in some details and to highlight others to give your card dimension.
Use repetition to make an appealing pattern. Here we’ve repeated the number six in a visual triangle to create lovely aesthetics.
Think outside the box with your embellishments. Using your Close To My Heart products in a wide range of ways—even with paper packets outside of their family—will lend exciting variety to your projects!
Cards are the right way to send a special greeting on that all-important day of the year. Make yours irresistible birthday gifts all in themselves for the kiddies in your life. Is there a better way to pull out their birthday smiles?
