Christmas time is officially here, and in the midst of all the hustle and bustle, most of us still have some last-minute holiday prep to take care of. Everyone wants to have the perfect Christmas; whether you’re still trying to find a gift for your neighbors, come up with favors for a Christmas party, or searching for the perfect stocking stuffer, we want to help out with a few last-minute Christmas treat ideas!

To create these fun projects, we used shapes from our Cricut^® Art Philosophy and Artiste collections. These collections include a wide variety of shapes for any project and are available for purchase through your local Consultant.

Before you start on these projects, make sure you have all the tools you need to complete them. A few of the Cricut^® shapes will require a scoring tool. If you don’t have a scoring tool, you can add your own scoring lines with a bone folder after the shape has been cut.

The first treat idea we’ll be showing you today is an adorable Christmas mouse. This treat idea is great for all ages! After all, who wouldn’t love a cute little mouse with a candy tail?

To make your very own Christmas mice, cut out an egg shape (#M4462D) for the body and two droplet shapes (#M462B8) for the ear pieces, both from our Art Philosophy Cricut^® collection. When cutting the body, be sure to include two small slits in the middle of each body piece. This allows you to easily attach and remove the candy cane tail. To form these slits, insert two small lines (#M369889) from the Basic Shapes tab to your design before cutting. (If you’re going to cut these pieces by hand, use a crafting knife to make these two cuts.)

Once you’ve got all your pieces cut, gently thread a candy cane through the slits on each mouse and attach the ears. For the finishing touch, add some black and white dots to create a nose and eyes. We colored our noses red with an alcohol marker.

With a few of these mice, you’ll have a gift or party favor that is sure to delight!

The next treat idea we have for you today is a mini gingerbread house treat box, made to hold all kinds of yummy surprises.

With white embossed “icing” on the roof and tiny stamped candies flanking the door, this gingerbread house looks good enough to eat, right along with the tasty treats inside!

Before you start making your gingerbread house, note that this particular cut includes score lines. You will need to adjust the cutting tools on your machine accordingly.

To create this too-cute gingerbread house, cut a pyramid box (#M440E0) from our Artiste collection using Kraft paper. Fold along the score lines included in the Cricut® shape and then, attach the sides of the box together with adhesive. Tie the top with some of your favorite ribbon and embellish it with layers of embossed icing and some stamped images from the My Acrylix^® From Candyland stamp set.

The last treat we have for you today is a Santa-hat inspired box. This little box packs a whole lot of cheer and makes a fun and festive party favor or stocking stuffer. Just like the gingerbread house, this treat box includes a few score lines and will require you to adjust your cutting tools to create them.

To make your own Santa hat treat box, cut out a pinwheel (#M38DAA) from our Artiste Cricut^® collection and fold along the score lines provided in the shape. Once you’ve made your folds, tuck the pinwheel arms behind each other to form the box.

Once you’ve got your treats inside and the box is fully formed, stick a pom-pom on top for a festive finishing touch. This treat box is the perfect size to slip into a stocking and cute enough to give out all on its own. No matter how you gift it, or to whom, it’s sure to be a hit! 🙂

Creating a Scrapbook Album in No Time Using the 3-2-1 Formula

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to scrapbook that stack of photos that you keep meaning to get to, then you’ve come to the right place! We are going to be making 10 6″ x 8″ two-page layouts using a super speedy scrapbooking technique known as the 3-2-1 Formula.

As the name implies, this is a formulaic project. That means that you will follow a simple formula to cut all of your patterned paper and then assemble your layouts. As you will see, you will continue to have a lot of creative freedom to add your own flair to each of your pages. No two albums will look the same, unless you make them that way intentionally.

Here’s what you’ll need:

5 sheets of patterned paper* (in a variety of coordinating patterns)
4 cardstock sheets* in coordinating colors (coordinate with your patterned paper)
10 White Daisy cardstock sheets*
Coordinating embellishments

*For those of you not familiar with Close To My Heart products, all of our cardstock and patterned papers come in a 12″ x 12″ format, and that is what we will be using to make this project.

Step 1: Creating Base Pages. The very first thing we cut are your base pages from the White Daisy cardstock. From 10 sheets, you should be able to get 20 6″ x 8″ pieces.

Step 2: Cutting Patterned Paper. Before measuring and cutting anything, trim all the zip strips from each of the patterned paper sheets. The zip strip is the extra ½” accent paper along the top of each Close To My Heart patterned paper sheet. Cut each of these in half and set them aside. Next, cut the remaining 12″ x 12″ paper in half, to 6″ x 12″. Here’s where the 3-2-1 comes into play. Cut these two half sheets of patterned paper into strips of 3″ x 6″, 2″ x 6″, and 1″ x 6″.

(Half of this example paper is showing what the pattern is on the back side of this sheet. Each one of our patterned papers has a double-sided coordinating design, for additional creative flexibility.)

Step 3: Creating Photo Mats from Cardstock. For a more polished look, we like to add photo mats behind most, if not all, of our photos. That is what we will be making with the 4 sheets of coordinating cardstock.

Cut each cardstock sheet into 6 6″ x 4″ rectangles. You should have a total of 24 when you are done. If you’d like to have a few 3″ x 4″ mats, simply cut these in half. Please note that the photos you will be mounting on these mats will have to be trimmed down a ¼” in both height and width to fit.

Step 4: Putting It All Together. You’re going to need a bit of space for this, so make sure to clear your table or a place on your living room rug or somewhere else you can keep your project safe. We are going to lay out all 20 White Daisy cardstock base pages. Next, let’s distribute the strips of patterned paper and cardstock mats. Each page should get one 4″ x 6″ photo mat, or two 3″ x 4″ mats, and one strip of each size, 3″, 2″, and 1″. If you’d like for the pages that will be facing each other in your album to match, keep that in mind as you distribute your papers. Lastly, decide how you want to attach these pieces to your pages and get to it! Move the components around until you are happy with your pages. Experiment with different arrangements and consider whether you want 3″ x 4″ or 4″ x 6″ photo mats on the layouts, or a combination of both.

Step 5: Embellish! Using coordinating embellishments add your finishing touches!

Assembling a Holiday Sparkle Shaker Card

Were any of you able to catch our Facebook live yesterday? If you did, you know that it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around these parts. Yep, you heard right! For the month of October we have an impressive set of holiday shaker cards for you to make and send to all of your favorite people this coming season! The best part—they are so easy to make that you can probably assemble all 12 that come in one kit in less than an hour!

These bright and festive Holiday Sparkle cards are part of our Cut Above^® program, which means you get everything you need to assemble them in one convenient kit: printed card bases, die-cuts, stickers, loose sequins, window foam and acetate, envelopes, and easy-to-follow instructions—absolutely no cutting required! The detailed paper accents that we all love for our handmade cards are included right in your kit!

A shaker card, for those new to the idea, is a card that has a window compartment built into it that holds loose pieces, adding a little extra whimsy to the card design and a lot of fun for the recipient!

So how do the Holiday Sparkle cards come together? Take a look at the steps below to see just how easy it truly is to assemble these festive cards with their glistening windows!

The very first thing you’re going to do is lay one of the printed card bases flat on your working space. Do not fold the card base in half just yet. This will give you a flat surface to work with, which is especially helpful later when you’re adding the loose sequins.

Next, carefully remove the outer foam ring from one of the window foam circles and attach it to your card front, on top of the printed circle.

Keeping your card base flat, add some of the loose sequins inside the circle frame you just created.

If you haven’t done so already, peel off the protective layer from the top of the foam tape ring to expose the adhesive.

Remove the protective film from one of the window acetate circles and lay it on top of the foam tape ring.

The last step in assembling the shaker window is to hide the foam frame by layering a faux-stitched circle sticker on top of it.

Now that your window is complete, all that is left is to embellish the card front as well as the envelopes using the included die-cuts, stickers, and any leftover sequins.

You’ll notice that we give you a solid circle of foam tape, not just the outer ring to use in the making of the window. The inside pieces are purposefully included, and pre-cut for your convenience. Use these pieces to attach some of your embellishments for even more dimension.

To add some holiday cheer to the inside of your cards, the My Acrylix^® Love with All the Trimmings stamp set (CC10188) is a perfect companion to this card kit with its many classic seasonal sentiments and designs.

We know what you’re thinking, with less than a week away from Christmas there’s no way we can convince you to start any more paper projects until well into January. But, we sure want to try! 😀

Children love making things with their hands. Creativity is an innate part of childhood. And, you love creating and making things, too—so why not share this passion and create something fun and festive together to add to your celebrations.

We came up with an idea to help you use up some of your paper stash while making valuable memories with the adorable little ones in your life.

A simple paper chain like this is a cinch to put together, making it the perfect project for this busiest of seasons. It’s also a great project for involving younger crafters, and keeping those tiny hands busy! Use whatever fun patterns and colors you or your co-crafters like, and display the finished product as a garland.

Make your garland any size and length you like, to fit your style and space. For ours, we made each link from 2″ x 9″ strips of paper. At first we used only an adhesive runner to keep the pieces together but as we started working with the thicker glitter papers, we realized that those pieces would need something extra if they were going to be links in our chain. So, we glued them first then added mini staples to make sure they stayed in place.

Mini staples, while securing the elements of your project, make for fun accents, too. We ended up adding extra staples to pieces that didn’t need them simply for the look.

The best part about crafting with children is not the project you are working on, but the moments you share with each other. That togetherness is especially wonderful during this time of year. Share your passion for creativity with the little hands in your life and turn that time into memories worth preserving.

Color Coordination Made Easy

One thing we are most proud of is the way our color palette makes color coordination effortless. Essential crafting supplies like cardstock and inks are available in all of our exclusive colors, which are the same colors used in patterned papers and many accessories.

This year, we’ve introduced a new color that we’re calling our Color of the Year. Like our other colors, this trendy, minty hue called Sea Glass comes in a stamp pad, mini pigment pad, re-inker, cardstock, and glitter paper. You’ll also see hints of Sea Glass in different patterned papers, embellishments, and other products throughout the year.

Since Sea Glass has been introduced in this stand-alone way, today we want to share some ideas for how you can combine Sea Glass with our other colors.

We love Sea Glass paired with yellows. It’s a great color combination for your spring and summer layouts because it’s bright and happy. Add black to the mix for a clean, modern vibe.

Sea Glass also looks really sharp with metallics, like on the “Best Day Ever” card shown above. The minty hue and the gold give your artwork some vintage flair. If you want to go a more monochromatic route, pair Sea Glass with greens, like the Emerald cardstock on the “Yay” card.

When it comes down to it though, Sea Glass is such a versatile color that you should just try it out in all different kinds of color combinations to see what you like best—you really can’t go wrong!

Easy As Pie

Today is Chocolate Day, so why not treat yourself to, say, a triple chocolate cream pie? 😀

The only thing sweeter than indulging in some decadent chocolate is sharing it with someone you care about, and thanks to our Cricut® Artiste collection, you can do it in style! With some simple assembly, you can make an adorable container like this one that’s perfect for transporting a delicious piece of pie!

Just like chocolate, crafting makes everything better, so why not combine the two? Grab yourself a delicious chocolate pie (cake will do the trick, too!), try your hand at making this cute container by following the recipe below, and then share some chocolatey and papercrafty goodness with a friend.
