The end of a year always brings a mingled sense of excitement and nostalgia: We look with anticipation toward what’s ahead while remembering with fondness the good things that have passed us by. There are a few good things from 2018 that we’d like to call your attention to that haven’t quite passed us by yet, but which will no longer be available after December 31. For a taste of what you’ll find in this workshop kit, take a closer look at the third deluxe layout. To make this this layout, first cut out a stencil from the stencil sheets using your Cricut^® machine and an image from the Cricut^® Artistry collection. Then position the stencil on the base page and smooth a thin layer of texture paste over it with a palette knife. The more texture paste you use, the more dimension you’ll have on your page.

If this is your first time using texture paste, try experimenting with how much to use on a scrap piece of paper before applying it to your layout’s base page. The texture paste is much thicker than it looks when you apply it over a stencil. A small amount smoothed on top of a stencil will still give you great dimension and texture.

Once you’ve applied your texture paste, don’t forget to set your page aside to dry before continuing to assemble your layout. You can easily clean your stencil sheet with water and a paper towel, or even with a baby wipe, to use again later. (Make sure, as you finish, to close the lid to your texture paste to prevent it from drying out.)

Your final result will look like what you see above from each of the three deluxe Boutique layouts. With this kit, you’ll also experiment with using just the shimmer brush behind the “Love” title. Then you’ll try adding color to the texture paste by mixing in some of the ink from the shimmer brush and applying the paste over a stencil.

Holiday Favorites

As the end of the year approaches, so does the end of our current idea book, Holiday Expressions. And, even though it may a bit taboo to choose a favorite child, we went for it and picked out a few of our favorite products from this catalog to show you just how versatile they really are and that they can be used outside of the holiday season.

First up, the Tree Line Border Thin Cuts.

It’s easy to associate pine trees with Christmas, the majority of us have one dominating our living rooms for the entire month of December (or more!) every year. But, lets not forget that before they got all dressed up for the party these beautiful trees had a more rustic existence.

These tree line dies can be used in multiple ways to invoke a natural scene. Their design allows for you to use one border at a time or to stack the die cuts, as we’ve done here, creating a more dimensional setting.

Another favorite is the My Acrylix^® Oh Snap! stamp set.

If you’re reading this post, you’re hanging with the crowd that doesn’t need a holiday to preserve memories. We’re all about capturing life’s moments, no matter the season.

Next up, we chose a more subtle and less obvious embellishment—the Cats & Bats Dots.

We have black and Emerald enamel dots. Yes, they work perfectly with this year’s Halloween collection, but these little guys are a force to be reckoned with all on their own. Embellishments like these are great to have on hand to add a splash of color any time you need it. Holiday Village

The winter village on the cover of our Holiday Expressions idea book has been getting a lot of attention, SO we are breaking it down on the blog today for you to make one of your very own!

First things first—to replicate our little paper houses exactly, you will need 3 kraft tapered tote boxes, two 6″ and one 8″ like these:

When we assembled our village, these were readily available at one of our local craft stores, but we’ve found some similar options available online that you can use to get the same look (see the recipes’ below for the links).
