Over the last few weeks the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically reshaped many of our lives. A lot of us are working from home, our children are dismissed from school, shops and stores we customarily frequent are either closed or understocked, and even a lot of outdoor venues, such as parks and playgrounds, are also off limits. As a society, we have had to pull ourselves together and come up with creative ways to continue doing the things that need to get done and to live life.

At Close To My Heart, we are committed to helping the storyteller in you share and preserve all of your new and unique experiences. Late last month, we created and released the Let’s Stay Home stamp set, which reflects these strange and unparalleled times.

In the video below, you will see how some of our Home Office friends used the Let’s Stay Home stamp set to create engaging scrapbook pages reflecting how the lives of their families have been impacted by our current events.

8 Tips for Creating a Gallery Wall

Gallery walls are a great way to infuse a space with colors and patterns. Not only are they a more affordable way to decorate large walls, but they give us the opportunity to showcase multiple pieces of art in one place and to express who we are and what we love!

If you’ve never created a gallery wall before or if you’re looking for ways to update your current gallery walls, here are some tips to help you create a meaningful, cohesive gallery:

Decide if you want your gallery to be just pictures and photos or if you want to include dimensional pieces, like wooden shapes, wreaths, etc.

Choose a favorite photo or piece of artwork as your starting piece, and then add to your wall by finding pieces that coordinate with your first item.

Another way to start is to choose one main color to anchor all the pieces in your gallery, and then create a color scheme around this main color.

Rather than searching for the perfect picture frames to coordinate with your artwork, try adding paper to plain picture frames. It’s an easy way to make everything match!

Hang your picture frames both horizontally and vertically for variety.

Add personal touches to your gallery, like a monogram, scrapbook page, or favorite family quote.

Use a variety of shapes and dimensions, as well as picture frame sizes, to create a well-balanced look.

Lay out your gallery on the floor before hanging it on the wall. You’ll easily be able to move around pieces until you get the look you want, and then you can take a photo to reference when hanging the gallery up on the wall. Want to be even more precise? Trace the pieces of your gallery on scrap paper, cut them out, and hang them on the wall to see how they look before attaching the actual pieces.

And maybe most of all, make sure you have fun! Gallery walls are a great way to get in touch with your creative side. Now go get crafty! 🙂

If you’re a fan of the modern shabby chic style, we have a simple paper distressing technique that you have to try! Cut a small triangle out of your round sponge, ink it, and then dab off the excess ink on scrap paper (you want very little ink on your sponge). Now that your sponge is ready to go, rub the edges of the paper you are looking to distress and—ta-da!—you have paper leaves that are “weathered” and very chic!

3 Unique Ways to Decorate Your Home with Paper Wreaths

The great thing about this paper wreath, apart from being super affordable, is that it can work in your home all year round! Usually store-bought wreaths are season-specific, but this one adds beauty to any part of your home any time of year.

Today we want to share with you three unique ideas for decorating your home with this homemade wreath. Choose your favorite, or try them all throughout the year!

1. Hang It on an Old Window Frame

If you love shabby chic, try hanging this wreath on a rustic window frame. You can place this window frame on an entry table or mantle and lean it against the wall, or you can just hang it up on any wall. Hang the wreath with some vintage-looking ribbons, like those in our Rustic Home ribbon pack, and you’ve got the perfect country look.

2. Add a Saying

If you love those wooden plaques that say things like “home sweet home” or “live laugh love,” try adding these sayings to wreaths instead. Hang them on wreath hooks, vintage knobs, coat hooks, or just straight on the wall in a row.

3. Personalize School Pictures

Hang a wreath above each kid’s school picture with his or her name. It’s a great way to personalize the standard school picture gallery in your home, and because these wreaths are so affordable, it’s totally reasonable to get one for each kid!

Creating Kindness Everywhere

To celebrate the launch of our Create Kindness campaign, we had everyone at the Home Office gather together and create cards from our Create Kindness card kit.

There’s nothing quite like good crafting and good food to bring everyone together. We had a blast!

After making our cards, we wanted to put them to good use—so we asked everyone to do an act of kindness for someone else and snap a picture of it. Here’s what we’ve got so far!

Someone’s gotten a good “snicker” from leaving candy bars and cards around the office…

…and one team decorated their manager’s office to welcome her back from vacation.

The kindness has spread beyond the office as well:

A daughter found a note from mom in her lunchbox.

Grandma got a balloon and handwritten card from her granddaughter.

A card-lover got more cards to add to her stash.

Friends got surprised with sweets and an equally sweet note.

And neighbors received extra produce with a little extra thoughtfulness.

We hope these acts of kindness show you how a little kindness can make someone feel special in big ways. These little cards are the perfect reminder that no act of kindness is too small to make a difference.

Display Tray Two Ways

Looking for a good crafting project to help you escape the summer heat? We’ve got just the thing to keep you busy in your air conditioned craft space for a quiet summer afternoon!

Meet our display tray! The openings on the tray are just the right size for 3″ × 4″ Picture My Life™ pocket scrapbooking cards and photos.

To create a unique focal point, we cut a 4″ × 6″ photo in half and displayed it in two squares right in the center of the tray. It’s a great way to draw attention to one of your favorite photos.

For this display tray, we filled the center row with just pictures, which is a nice way of drawing the eye right to that row. We also added a couple of smaller square photos, too, adding to the balance of the whole project—plus they are just super cute!

To add a little extra charm to our pocket scrapbooking cards, we added accents from our Glacier Fundamental assortment, like this wooden arrow and the glittery triangle stickers.

This type of project comes together very quickly—you could easily have yours done in an afternoon. 3 Ways to Create a Vision Board

Last March, we published a blog post with tips for how to create a vision board if you’ve never done it before. When it comes to how to get inspired, you can never have too many ideas, so we’ve put together a few more inspirational vision board ideas to get those wheels turning! 🙂

Probably the most obvious idea is to start with a basic cork bulletin board. What’s nice about this route is that you can move your vision board wherever you want whenever you want. All you need are straight pins or thumb tacks to attach photos, cards, and other bits of inspiration to your board.

For a more “outside-the-boxframe” approach, try creating a vision board without the board! 🙂 With some washi tape and a little ingenuity, you can create a vision “board” almost anywhere! We love this option because you can just keep adding to your vision board over time—walls are a huge canvas! Plus, since everything is just held up with washi tape, you can take them down and rearrange them whenever you please.

Our final idea for today is a nice mix of our two previous ideas: Use a magnetic board. Magnet boards come in all shapes and sizes, but they give you a space to work in that is a bit more defined than your wall. And when working with magnets, it’s super easy to rearrange your board as you see fit, and you don’t put any holes in your artwork and photos.
